Grade a class set in minutes. Approve every mark yourself.
SpeedGrade reads your students’ work from Google Classroom or from paper you scan with your phone, grades it against your answer key, and shows you anything it isn’t sure about. Nothing reaches a student until you approve it.
New accounts get $5.00 of free grading. No card needed to try it.
3. Why do plants need sunlight? (4 marks)
plants use sunlite to make food from water and CO2, and give off oxygen
What SpeedGrade read
plants use sunlite to make food from water and CO2, and give off oxygen
- Names light as the energy source 2/2
- Gives the products (glucose, oxygen) 1/2
Hard to read: check “sunlite” before approving.
How a class set gets marked
Bring in the work
Connect Google Classroom and pick an assignment, or print SpeedGrade answer sheets (one per student, with a code that knows who it belongs to) and scan the finished pages with your phone.
Add your answer key
Correct options for multiple choice; a model answer and a short rubric for written questions. You write it once and it’s used for every student’s paper.
SpeedGrade reads and grades
Bubbles are read by image processing, so multiple choice costs almost nothing. Written answers are read and marked against your rubric point by point.
You review
Flagged answers come first: hard handwriting, answers that don’t fit the rubric, anything unusual. Fix a misread word and the answer is regraded at no charge. Approve the rest in one go.
Grades go back
Approved grades are sent to Classroom as draft or final grades. For assignments made directly in Classroom, which Google doesn’t let other apps grade, you download a spreadsheet instead.
What it can read
| Students hand in | How it’s read |
|---|---|
| Classroom short-answer and multiple-choice questions | Straight from Classroom |
| Google Docs, Word files, PDFs with typed text | The text, split by question number |
| A printed SpeedGrade answer sheet, photographed or scanned | Bubbles by image processing, handwriting by AI |
| A photo of handwritten work | Each numbered answer read by AI |
| Slides, Forms, links, video | Not read; noted so you can mark them yourself |
You stay in charge of the marks
Every grade waits for you. Suggested marks are drafts. Only grades you approve or edit are sent to Classroom or put in the spreadsheet.
Students’ names stay in Classroom. SpeedGrade keeps a coded id for each student and shows names only while you’re looking. Student work is never used to train AI models.
You pay for marks that worked. An answer is charged once, when it’s graded successfully. Retries and fixes to misread words are free.

Questions teachers ask
- Do I need Google Classroom?
- No. You can print answer sheets and scan them with your phone. With Classroom, SpeedGrade picks up what students turned in.
- Can I buy credit in the iPhone or Android app?
- Credit is bought on this website and works everywhere you sign in, including the apps.
- What if it misreads a student’s handwriting?
- Hard-to-read answers are flagged with the photo beside what was read. Correct the words and the answer is regraded for free.
- Who can see my students’ work?
- You. Each teacher’s classes are kept apart. SpeedGrade’s admin tools show account and billing details, not student work.
